Department of Accounting and Finance

At the Department of Accounting and Finance, our aspiration has always been to offer the society a high standard of teaching, research and consultation. Currently, we are offering the following programmes:

Knowledge of finance and economics is regarded as an essential component in managing a business. Economics provides the general theoretical framework in which a business operates while finance provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills on how to effectively and efficiently handle business decisions. The finance programme intends to create knowledgeable, competent and well-sought-after professionals with a high degree of aptitude to meet the challenges of the ever-changing business world. Students are exposed to various courses in finance, banking, investment, behavioural sciences, information technology and quantitative skills in mathematics, statistics and research methodology.

We have designed the structure of our accounting programme so as to produce graduates who are relevant to the market, characterised as professionally competent, and more essentially imbued with high level of ethics. Our academics are involved in research that covers a wide area of accounting ranging from the traditional financial accounting, management accounting and taxation to more contemporary issues leading to corporate governance, forensic accounting, corporate social responsibility accounting, and Islamic accounting. This involvement would ensure that our academics are keeping abreast with the current development in accounting which in turn would also bring necessary exposure to students.

Department of Business and Management

For the success of any organisation, irrespective of its size, strong understanding is needed to evaluate the internal and external forces that influence business practices such as human resource management, business law, information technology and so forth. Currently, we are offering the following programmes:

The current programmes are accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). Business oriented programmes have, over the years, emerged as one of the most sought after areas of study. This is mainly due to the awareness that a country's progress is dependent on the skilful management of its industrial and commercial ventures. Throughout this programme, students will have the opportunity to develop expertise in human resource management through courses in human resource management, training, industrial relations, compensation, performance management, and organisational development and change. Students will also receive well-rounded education in business management – acquiring and developing the skills required for effective management in different business organisations and across various other commercial sectors. In order to meet the current industrial demands, the Department established the Work-based Learning (WBL) mode for two programmes, namely BBA (Hons) in Marketing and BBA (Hons) in Human Resource Management.

Department of Foundation and Diploma Studies

The Department of Foundation and Diploma Studies offers the following programmes:

The courses offered are being specifically structured to equip students with a strong foundation in basic accounting, basic business administration, basic finance as well as other related courses before they embark on the Bachelor of Accounting (Hons), Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) programme in Marketing, Human Resource Management and Entrepreneurship Venture & Management, Bachelor of International Business (Hons) and Bachelor of Finance (Hons). In addition to that, UNITEN has established a collaboration with JAKIM to offer JAKIM-UNITEN Tahfiz Al-Quran Certification in Accounting for two programmes, namely Foundation in Accounting and Diploma of Accountancy.

The arranged structure of business courses from the programme allows the embrace of management knowledge from various perspectives to ensure the sound practice of balanced management that are strategic (i.e. Principles of Management, Consumer and Buyer Behavior) scientific (i.e. Business Statistics, Management Science), diverse (i.e. Principles of Accounting, Principles of Marketing, International Business) and practical (i.e. Business and Company Law, Industrial Training) can be expected from our future graduates.

The quality of these accounting and finance programmes are distinct with the recognition of the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and accounting professional bodies including the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). Our staff are involved in research that covers a wide area of accounting ranging from the traditional financial accounting, management accounting and taxation to more contemporary issues leading to corporate governance, forensic accounting, corporate social responsibility accounting and Islamic accounting. This would ensure that our staff keeps abreast with the current developments in accounting which in turn would also bring the necessary exposure to students.

Courses on General Studies provided by the department complement and strengthen the field specific knowledge acquired by students and such courses are offered at foundation, diploma and degree level. Those courses cover a wide range of areas in general knowledge such as languages, social sciences and humanities, sports and recreation, religion and values and others. Language courses are designed to develop overall language proficiency as well as to develop other skills important for communication. These include public speaking skills, presentation skills and writing skills required for academic purposes as well as those required on the job. The courses also expose students to critical reading and thinking skills through class readings, discussions and group projects. Other courses offered are capable of empowering students with multi knowledge and benefits essential for their campus life and after their graduation. In addition, the department also constantly conducts various student programs and activities that help to boost the soft skills and motivates student to always strive for their best.
