Are the programs conducted at UNITEN listed in the Malaysia Qualifications Register (MQR)?

All programs offered by UNITEN have been accredited by MQA (or previously known as National Accreditation Board (NAB)) and is listed in the Malaysia Qualifications Register (MQR).

How do I apply for credit transfer?

Credit transfer can be done in two categories detailed as follows:

  1. Vertical - transfer of credit from low level qualification to higher level qualification. For example, the transfer of credit from Diploma program (Level 4 MQF) to Bachelor program (Level 6 MQF).
  2. Horizontal - transfer of credit from one program to another at the same level. Examples are as follows:
  • Certificate (level 3, MQF) to Certificate (level 3, MQF)
  • Diploma (level 4, MQF) to Diploma (level 4, MQF)
  • Bachelor (level 6, MQF) to Bachelor (level 6, MQF)

Credit transfer made must be based on subject-to-subject mapping and subject to the general conditions of credit transfer as follows:

  1. Passing grade - minimum grade i.e. grade C;
  2. Credit value - equal to the credit value of the course the IPT receives;
  3. Course curriculum equivalence - not less than 80%; and
  4. Only courses from a program that has been accredited (including Temporary Accreditation) / recognized by an authority in the country qualify for credit transfer

What is the maximum credit transfer allowed?

1.    Credit Transfer from Diploma to Degree

 The maximum credit transfer allowed is 50% of the total graduation requirements as follows:

For example, for a degree program requiring 120 credits to graduate, the maximum credit transfer allowed is 60 credits. Uneven totals are rounded down.
For programs accredited by the professional bodies, the credit transfer and credit exemption shall abide by the policies, regulations and processes set by the professional bodies.

 

2. Credit Transfer from Degree to Degree: (i.e. other Institutions to the University)
For engineering programs, applicants from other institutions with Good Standing, is entitled to a maximum credit transfer of 50% of the total graduation requirements.


For non-engineering programs, applicants from other institutions with Good Standing is entitled to a maximum credit transfer subject to the residency requirement.

The maximum credit transfer may differ accordingly as stipulated by the programs’ respective accreditation governing bodies, from time to time.

3. Credit Transfer from Certificate to Diploma:
Vertical credit transfer is allowed for Certificate to Diploma level with a maximum of 30% of the total credit of the program to be followed, subject to the general conditions of credit transfer.

 

How do I apply for credit transfer and what are the documents required to apply?

The application for credit transfer must be made within the first semester in the University for new students. This provision is also extended to current students returning from mobility program whereby the application for credit transfer must be made within the first semester upon return to the University

The application for credit must be accompanied by the transcript of examination results and the syllabus or course outline of the subject from the respective institution.

Credit transfer can be granted not exceeding seven years after the examination results of the subject have been released.   

Students who are dismissed/terminated from their previous institutions or programs are NOT eligible for credit/grade transfer. Therefore, students need to start from the first semester.                

Is the transfer of credit for General Studies (MPU) subjects allowed?

Only horizontal credit transfer is allowed for General Studies (MPU) subjects, subject to the general conditions of credit transfer.
