The 25^th Silver Jubilee Anniversary marks a milestone for Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN). UNITEN was established by Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) in 1997 in response to a clarion call by the government to open a private university to support nation-building. Since then, UNITEN has been at the forefront of energy research, leveraging TNB’s solid industry experience - from power generation to transmission and distribution. UNITEN takes pride in its ability to synergise soft skills with engineering, information technology and business management knowledge to prepare holistic graduates.

UNITEN is making a steady progress towards becoming the tertiary education institution of choice in the region. In support of nation-building through education, UNITEN has been very critical in employing the state-of-the-art facilities, sophisticated infrastructure and world-class teaching faculties in order to enhance a dynamic and vibrant learning environment. To date, the university has produced over 37,000 graduates from its diploma, degree and post-graduate programmes. Some have become industry leaders and experts in their fields. The employability rate of UNITEN is always between 93 and 95 percent after six months upon completion of studies. These are the indications that UNITEN graduates are highly sought-after by the industry.

UNITEN has launched its 10-year Building Opportunities, Living Dreams 2025 Strategic Plan or better known as BOLD2025 in 2016 with the aspiration to become a globally competitive energy-focused university which is based on three strategic goals namely Teaching and Learning Excellence, Research Excellence and Financial Sustainability. Currently, we are at the mid-point of this 10-year journey. Therefore, we have launched a refresh exercise looking at our past progress in terms of academic, research and financial performances and where necessary to revise our course for the next 5 to 10 years.

The development of this BOLD2025 Refresh has included interactions with various internal and external stakeholders. UNITEN maintains the original strategic goals and has identified 3 new Strategic Objectives which are supported by 10 new and enhanced Strategic Initiatives which will enable UNITEN to achieve its intended aspirations, in addition to being financially independent and sustainable.
